David Hogg is about as ridiculous a public figure in the Anti-Second Amendment space as has ever existed. He’s in good company though with the likes of David Cicilline, Shannon Watts, Kevin DeLeon, and all the rest of them. Ok, Kevin DeLeon may be slightly more ridiculous, but it is a close call. That aside, these people never fail to prove how allergic there are to facts, history, and logic. They routinely put on full display their hyper-partisan, anti-liberty bona fides.
I’m sure you all remember Kevin DeLeon’s, brain fart a few years ago:
Wow. That never gets old, does it? If you feel like killing a few brain cells without any booze, you can check the full video out here. Now as fun as it is to roast that guy, this is about another half-wit. David Hogg had a similar brain fart on Twitter recently:
EVERYTHING about that tweet and the subsequent thread is just wrong. Of course, we have the right to own guns. When the bill of rights was ratified, the founders had just fought and won a bloody war for independence from a regime (The Crown) that tried to take guns away from the people. Hogg’s interpretation of the Second Amendment means that after they fought this war, they decided to prevent the people from owning guns and open the door for the newly created state to rear its ugly tyrannical head. The founders knew that men crave power, and the corrupting influence of power could lead ambitious men down the road to tyranny. When you understand that they wanted to make sure the people had the means to fight tyranny again should the need arise, Hogg’s conclusion makes no sense on any level.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Nowhere in that text does it say anything about the right of the state. It says “the right of the people.” If he knew anything about this, he would understand that we the people – the whole of the people – as George Mason put it, are the militia. Our right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The modern interpretation of the Second Amendment is the same as when it was written. The only fraud in this scenario is you Davey boy.
I encourage you to read the whole thread because in it, he proves that he knows absolutely nothing about this country’s history, anything that the founders believed, or their vision for the country. He also puts on blast his lack of knowledge of world history and what oppressive regimes did to prepare for the carnage they intended to inflict on their political enemies. People on his side of the political aisle either want something like that to happen or are too ignorant to understand the implications of how a disarmed population is vulnerable to being slaughtered by despotic rulers. Here are just a few examples:
Turkey implemented gun control in 1911. From 1915 to 1917, They rounded up and exterminated 1.5 million Armenians, who, because of gun control were unable to defend themselves.
In 1929, the Soviet Union implemented gun control. Between 1929 and 1953, they rounded up and exterminated 20 million dissidents, who, because of gun control were unable to defend themselves.
China implemented gun control in 1935. They waited a little longer than the previous two examples, but beginning in 1948 through 1952, 20 million political dissidents, who were unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
There are many other examples throughout history, but nitwits like David Hogg don’t know about these events, nor do they care to educate themselves. Thomas Sowell once wrote, “It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance.” That lack of intellectual integrity, coupled with the fact that God is on our side is why Davey boy will eventually end up in the dustbin of history and we will win.
