The left is holding up this woman as some sort of hero. Someone for young girls to look up to and emulate. In terms of sport, I suppose there are worse people. I mean she has made the most of the talent she was given and that is something to be admired. However, the left is holding her up as uber American because she is purporting to hold America to her highest ideals. Sorry but I’m gonna have to call BS on that one. You don’t go to a stranger’s house and start trashing your family. You don’t go to another country and start trashing your own. That is exactly what she did. Although, we can probably thank Obama for making that kind of behavior mainstream.
During the Women’s World Cup tournament, or whatever they call it in soccer, she refused to acknowledge the playing of the Star Spangled Banner. To be fair, she’s been doing this since 2016 in solidarity with that other anti-American jackass Colin Kaepernick. It’s just that no one knew who she was until now because, well, it’s women’s soccer and no one cared. We do now though because she was representing the United States. While wearing the red, white and blue overseas, she displayed not just disrespect, but through her words and actions, outright contempt for this country. She said in an interview that she wouldn’t go to the white house if invited and said F*@k Trump in that interview. This is indicative of the times in which we now live. Remember The Dixie Chicks? They trashed their careers when Natalie Maines did something similar in London back in 2003.
To further illustrate how far we have fallen, now that disrespecting the country has become mainstream, I heard that they are making an attempt to come back. I suspect that if they trash Trump, while on tour, they will sell millions of terrible records. Full disclosure, I liked the Dixie Chicks back in the day, but after that stunt, I was glad to see their careers circle the bowl.
But getting back to Rapinoe, all during the tournament, she was trashing the country that gave her the opportunity to make money playing a stupid game and the platform to be able to spew whatever bile she wanted and that is how she paid us back. After the win, while mugging for the camera, she and a couple of teammates let the flag fall to the ground. Thankfully, Kelley O’Hara was there to pick it up.
Once the team got home, at what appeared to be a rooftop party, while holding the World Cup trophy in on her knee with one hand and a bottle of champagne in the other, she said, “I deserve this”. Not we deserve this, but I deserve this. In her world, everything revolves around her, which makes disrespecting the country and everyone in it very easy to do. During the parade held in the team’s honor, when she spoke, she droned on about coming together and listening more and regurgitated the typical banalities that you always hear. Those sentiments ring very hollow coming from her. If she were sincere, rather than saying F*@k Trump, she would have said something along the lines of, “I am absolutely going to the white house and I hope that I get a chance to talk to the president and voice my concerns…” Or something.
It gets better though. On Anderson Cooper’s show on CNN, she said that she only wants to talk to people with whom she agrees: “Yes to AOC, yes to Nancy Pelosi, yes to the bipartisan Congress, yes to Chuck Schumer, yes to anyone else that wants to invite us and have a real, substantive conversation, and that believes in the same things we believe in.” This is a hallmark of the modern left. “If you disagree with me, not only will I not listen to you but you must be silenced.”
Rapinoe is not really interested in affecting change, despite what she said numerous times during her press tour. If she were, then she would have taken a much different tack and expressed a willingness to talk to people with whom she disagrees. She can’t persuade anyone to her side if she isn’t willing to talk to them. She can’t hear anything other than the talking points she’s being fed if she is not willing to listen to people with whom she disagrees. Which is why her speech at the parade was nothing more than verbal diarrhea.
