K9 Luna of the Duluth Minnesota Police Department, was shot and killed while performing an apprehension during a domestic disturbance.
When officers had responded to reports of a domestic disturbance they learned that the male subject had felony warrants. When he refused to surrender, Officer Luna was deployed for an apprehension. The subject opened fire, killing Officer Luna.
The man was later found deceased in the home. It is as yet unclear if he died as a result of the return fire from the Duluth PD or self inflicted injuries.
K9 Luna had served with the Duluth Police Department for two years.
