I have said little about what happened at the capitol on January 6th; I was working, not glued to a TV and didn’t want to jump to conclusions without having a handle on the facts. That’s what the left does. There were accusations that the president incited the violence that took place, that it was Trump supporters who stormed the capitol, etc. Let me just say at the outset, I, The Liberty Cast condemn the violence that took place on the Capitol. It shouldn’t have to be said, but people who don’t know me and have let their acute Trump Derangement Syndrome affect their ability to think clearly and rationally have accused me of supporting it. No sane person wants violence. It solves nothing. It accomplished nothing. An unarmed woman was shot dead for no reason. She was a Trump supporter, and it appears that she engaged in illegal activity, so she should have been prosecuted, not executed.
I’m going to talk about this on the show, and there’s a lot to unpack, but let’s start with this. This country is deeply divided. I am not optimistic about a reunification. When one side thinks the other is evil, reconciliation is nearly impossible. I’ve said before, how can you reconcile with someone who thinks you’re evil and why would you want to. If they think you’re evil, how can you trust that their overtures of reconciliation are real? You can’t. It’s going to take a fundamental shift in mindset, but not by Conservatives. We have a set of bedrock principles; we haven’t changed, so I do not believe that it is up to us to compromise on that front.
That does not mean that violence is the answer. In the political arena, it never is. It turns public opinion against your cause. Public opinion about Black Lies Matter and Antifa turned as the violence wore on last summer. The violence at the capitol accomplished nothing and set the conservative movement back years. But President Trump is not to blame. I listened to his remarks and heard nothing that could be construed as inciting violence. If anyone heard those remarks and decided that Trump wanted them to engage in violent acts, they were looking for something to justify their desire to commit violence. They were going to do it anyway.
Although I have condemned the violence, the double standard on display regarding political violence is striking. All summer, the mainstream media told us the Antifa, and Black Lies Matter were engaged in peaceful protests, while businesses and cars were burning in the background. Leftists like Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi and members of the so-called squad encouraged this behavior. They gushed with pride in these people for expressing themselves in this manner. Now, when it appears to be Trump supporters engaging in similar behavior, they are all for law and order and want to see them prosecuted. Don’t get it twisted, I do too; but I am on record condemning those domestic terrorists last summer. There are still questions about who instigated this violence because pictures that are coming out show Antifa leaders and well-known anti Trumpers, so we will see if there is an investigation how it all shakes out. But when you spend twelve years telling a group of people they are evil, that they don’t have a right to eat at a restaurant in peace or that their votes don’t count, when you been lying to them, marginalizing their point of view because you think it’s so evil, while at the same time condoning destructive behavior from the other side, what happened on January 6th is the natural conclusion. Again, for the cheap seats, I am not excusing what happened, merely explaining it.
I still support President Trump. He has endured four years of attacks by big media, tech tyrants, RINOs, never Trumpers and has been betrayed multiple times by people we thought were allies. While I support him and his agenda, I think he handled the violence and the aftermath poorly. Make America Great Again and America First are ideas that every American patriot should be able to get behind. That so many object to that ideal says a lot more about them than it does the movement. Despite my opinon that he handled it poorly, I don’t blame him for the violence or loss of life. He explicitly called for the violence to end and for people to go home. Although not very eloquently and that statement should have been crafted better. I blame the perpetrators, whether they be Antifa, Black Lies Matter or MAGA supporters. The people who committed those crimes are to blame.
