Leftists are so inconsistent and their rationales are so incoherent that their argument is that teachers should be allowed to talk to children about sex, their sex lives, sexual identity, whether or not boys can choose to be girls or vice versa. These are completely inappropriate conversations for any adult to have with a child that is not their own. Now imagine being upset that Florida passed a law prohibiting teachers from discussing these topics with children between Kindergarten and third grade. Nothing says “I’m a groomer” like quitting your job as a teacher because there is a law in place that prevents you from talking about your sex life with your second-grade students. I don’t think the law goes far enough. We should outlaw discussions about sexuality and sex between teachers and students K-12. Talking about sex and sexuality is the purview of parents. And think about where we are as a society that a law prohibiting teachers from talking about sex and sexual identity with students has to be passed in the first place?
Not only are groomers upset that Florida is putting these measures in place, but Disney decided to jump in to the fray and declare their allegiance to the groomers by publicly opposing Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Law, also known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. When Disney took the groomer’s side in this culture war, governor DeSantis went on the offensive and proposed rescinding all the special privileges that Disney enjoyed since 1967 with the Reedy Creek Improvement District. This allowed Disney to operate emergency services and complete construction and infrastructure projects, wholly independent of state and county regulations. Under the Reedy Creek Improvement District, Disney can build their own airport or a nuclear power plant if they chose. The measure to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District passed both chambers of the Florida legislature and DeSantis signed it in to law.
There are a couple of things I find both fascinating and disturbing about this. First, a number of prominent conservatives have expressed having an issue with DeSantis taking this step. Those people have bought in to the whole high road, low road theory of modern politics. They believe that conservatives can win by staying above the fray and not employing any of the same tactics that the left uses against us. They believe that by virtue of our superior ideas, conservatives have the power. It hasn’t really worked out that way though has it? We undoubtedly have superior ideas and a better vision for the country, but ideas don’t translate in to significant wins at the ballot box, legislature or in the culture without inflicting actual material loss on our opponents. That means votes for power-hungry politicians, money for lobbyists, corporations and the tech oligarchy and to a lesser extent legislation like the Parental Rights in Education Law. Leftists have been inflicting actual material losses on conservatives for decades and will continue to do so long as we keep to doubling and tripling down on the superiority of our ideas without mobilizing.
The second aspect of this story that I find disturbing is that leftists are genuinely upset that a corporation like Disney will no longer get special privileges and has to “pay its pair share”. They’ve been spewing that line for years now and when a company will actually be forced to “pay its pair share”, suddenly it’s a problem? Signing in to law the dissolution of the Reedy Creek Improvement District is a perfect example of inflicting actual material loss on the opposition. Conservative governors and legislatures need to make this a focus heading in to the mid terms and 2024. Conservative activist groups need to put pressure on said governors and legislatures to look for more opportunities to inflict actual material losses on the left. The left is trying to groom your children by talking to them about sex and sexual orientation, and they are indoctrinating them with radical ideas about race with CRT and ahistorical versions of the founding of this country. Turning over school boards and city councils is a great place to start. These issues are national news, but all politics is local and in order to make a lasting impact nationally, we need to start inflicting actual material loss on the left locally. DeSantis did exactly that when Disney bowed up and sided with groomers.
Congratulations Disney, you played yourself.
